Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings. Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors. Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards. Replaces faulty electrical components on machine such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices. Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wire and cables. Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment. Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as conveyors and programmable controllers. Performs plant startup tasks, energizing all equipment and ensuring operation. Tasks range from fine adjustments that require dexterity for circuit board adjustments to using both hands to apply force when pushing or pulling a wrench to break pipe fittings. Tools used can range from a small 4” screw driver to a 36” pipe wrench. Position requires the use of hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, punches, screw drivers, pliers, and pipe wrenches on a continuous basis to perform normal duties.Job requires the following personal protective equipment: cut resistant gloves and sleeves, heat resistant gloves and sleeves, safety glasses, goggles, face shield, bump cap, ear plugs, and steel toed shoes.
Requires carrying, lifting, and transporting of parts to and from work location and maintenance shop by hand or mechanical means. Position requires pushing toolbox to work areas. Movement/positioning/replacement of heavy weight equipment with the aid of mechanical means such as forklifts, pry bars, and chain falls. Sets up and operates drill press, grinder, band saw, milling machine, welder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts. Starts devices to test their performance. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
